New Folk Sounds (November 2021 – translated)
Esquela's latest album was given the title after the first early recordings in a home studio were suddenly undone by a major power outage caused by a violent thunderstorm.
Songwriter John 'Chico' Finn, together with his musicians and producer Eric 'Roscoe' Ambel, is recording a completely new album with songs that originated during the forced stay at home during the Covid19 pandemic. The six-piece band recorded the entire album in Finn's home studio, over the foundation that Finn had already recorded with his life partner Rebecca Frame. The latter is an added value with her beautiful lead and second voices.
The songs are broad in a rock setting, and with an alternation in the vocals between Finn and Frame the album sounds very appealing. The country rock influences are never far away, and the recording quality proves once again that an exclusive studio is not always necessary to come up with a good album.
